The first modular lightweight timber building in Central Kalimantan is officially open!

On 30 October, Fairventures inaugurated the first modular house made of lightweight timber in Palangka Raya.
This opening event was attended by representatives of the German Bundestag (members of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development) and representatives of the Indonesian government at national and regional level. Johannes Schwegler, the founder of Fairventures, gave a presentation on the modular house. This pilot project sets a new milestone in the development of timber construction in Indonesia. It is based on wood from reforested areas and serves as a demonstration that light wood can be a competitive building material that is more environmentally friendly compared to other building materials. Sri Suwanto, speaking on behalf of the Governor of Central Kalimantan, said: "This is a great innovation and a good way to promote the value of lightwood, which will strengthen the spirit of local farmers to plant more of it."
Dr Christoph Hoffmann, head of the German Bundestag delegation, also gave a positive assessment. "This initiative is fully supported by the German government and what we have seen in Central Kalimantan could be a great example of a complete model of reforestation."

The building is the result of a partnership between Fairventures, Löffler_Schmeling Architekten, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Blaß & Eberhart GmbH and Transsolar GmbH. It was funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU).
