A community centre in Reutlingen is to be revitalised. A feasibility study was carried out for this purpose, which envisages demolishing the existing building from the ground floor upwards and repurposing the existing basement floors. A new timber construction is to be erected above the basement floors. The entrance area will be set back slightly from the street so that a connecting building structure is created in the centre. It divides the building into three parts and provides barrier-free access from the street.
The left-hand part of the building contains the existing staircase and function rooms (viewed from the street) and is led to the very top in a narrow bracket. The community hall with gallery emerges on the right as a further structure from the central, connecting part of the building.
A large, south-facing outdoor terrace will be created at the rear towards the river. This can be used for community celebrations or as a car park. The terrace develops over stepped levels directly down to the river. This makes the best possible use of the unique location of the community centre for the community and guests.
