Housing estates - Practical project urban development concept by Nathalie Schmid

Nathalie Schmid is studying architecture and has completed our project 'live eventful Balingen' analysed. The aim of this work was to illustrate and analyse the differences between rural and urban housing developments by means of inspections and CAD drawings and image sequences. In two comparative projects, she analysed the materiality, the flat sections and sizes and also the design of the outdoor areas. In our housing estate project in Balingen, she noticed the strong focus on sustainability and social interaction, and in the comparison project, an urban housing estate, the need for efficiency in particular: creating as much living space for as many people as possible in as little space as possible.

In conclusion, Nathalie Schmid emphasises the importance of the task of architects in urban planning: creating living spaces, not just living spaces. Thinking from the small to the large and thus creating architecture that is in context with the surroundings and the people for whom it is made.
