Topping-out ceremony - Heidelberg staff dormitory

On 15 October, we celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the new construction project on Wieblinger Weg with Gesellschaft für Grund- und Hausbesitz mbH (GGH), the project partners, tradesmen and many guests. Just seven months after the ground-breaking ceremony, the 120 guests were able to get a first impression of the new flats being built. These will be ready for occupancy as early as next year and will provide space for 99 employees of Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD). The construction of the Employees:dormitory is built using a modular hybrid construction method, primarily from wood, steel and concrete. Thanks to the short construction time, the eco-balance of the raw materials used and the high efficiency due to the prefabrication of entire building elements (such as completely prefabricated bathroom cells), we demonstrate how contemporary architecture can be realised in a future-oriented way.
