Canteen extension Europaschule, Karlsruhe

The extension to the canteen of the European School in Karlsruhe is based on the existing canteen in terms of construction and materials, with an extremely insulated outer shell and the utilisation of waste heat from the school heating system. The new "European Dialogue Centre" was built directly on the north side of the canteen, which was built between October 2007 and October 2008. The 79 square metre room serves both as a teachers' dining room, which can be separated from the main room of the canteen, and as an event room. The extension could also function as a possible entrance foyer/connecting building in a further construction phase to the north.

On 1 April 2014, Prof. Andreas Löffler and Matthias Schmeling left the office P.I.A-Architekten, founded in 1994 by the former partners Andreas Löffler and Rainer Schneider, Gerhard Leicht and Matthias Schmeling, and founded the architectural office Löffler-Schmeling.
