The Mariahof youth welfare centre has been in existence for over 175 years.
Mariahof sees itself as a "home for development" for the children and young people who are cared for and supported by Mariahof. A central component of this understanding is attendance at the special educational Wessenberg School with the aim of achieving a school-leaving qualification.

The Wessenberg School in Hüfingen has been in existence since 1969.
Since 2009, the specialisation "Education for children and young people with autism spectrum disorder" has been added. The existing school building and its outdated existing structure cannot fulfil the growing demands on the number of pupils and educational content.

At the beginning of 2021, we were able to present our concept for a revitalisation with partial demolition and additional new construction in timber to the client. (s. this contribution)

The core of the concept is to retain the existing building where it can be converted. Only those areas that cannot be spatially and economically converted into contemporary and future-proof rooms for the special educational needs of the Wessenberg School will be demolished. The partial demolition preserves the building fabric, which therefore does not have to be rebuilt. This saves costs and conserves valuable resources. The new building will be a timber construction and the entire building will meet the KfW40 standard. A large-scale photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof, contributing to the further sustainable and climate-neutral development of the Mariahof building complex in Hüfingen.
